Data fields in BOATPro are organised into categories to make it easier for you to understand. Here we explain what each field means.

Accommodation

Crew - The maximum number of crew at full capacity

Guests - The maximum number of guests accommodated

Passenger rooms - The total number of guest rooms available

AIS (n.b. only available for use with an AIS module subscription

Average Speed - The average speed between two positions, calculated on the spot

Closest country - The closest country to the yacht's position in a direct straight line to the nearest shore

Collection type - Whether the position was collected via Terrestrial or Satellite AIS receiver

Continent - The continent a yacht's position is located at, if the yacht is close enough to national waters

Days spent in position - The time spent by a yacht in one position when moored

Declared destination - The stated destination from the yacht. This is set by the crew of the yacht

Distance from shore - The distance to the nearest shoreline in a straight line, measured in nautical miles

Distance travelled - The distance travelled from one yacht position to the next, measured in nautical miles

Last recorded Speed - The speed as it was transmitted by the yacht

Last reported Date - The most recent date we received an AIS position update from a yacht

Locality - The village, town or city where a yacht position is located. If the field is empty then the yacht is too far away from a locality to find a match (for example moored offshore or travelling at sea)

Marina - The marina where a yacht position is located. If the field is empty then the yacht is not located in a known marina at that time

Navigational Status - The current status as it was transmitted by the yacht. This can be for instance 'Under way using engine', 'Moored', 'At anchor', etc.

Ocean / Sea - The ocean area where a yacht position is located. If the field is empty then the yacht is located onshore (e.g. for repair), in an inland waterway, or in a port or marina outside of the ocean boundaries

Plus Code Zone - The yachts' position as a Plus code, truncated to a 6 character Plus Code, which represents a 2sqkm area

Port - The port where a yacht position is located. If the field is empty then the yacht is not located in a known port at that time

Region - The administrative area (county/state) where a yacht position is located. If the field is empty then the yacht is too far away from shore to find a match. 

Timestamp - The time of a yacht position, defined as date and hourly time in UTC

Yard - The builder's yard or refit yard where a yacht position is located. If the field is empty then the yacht is not located in a known yard at that time

Brokerage

Age at time of sale - The age of the yacht when sold, based on the time between the delivery date and sale date. If the yacht was sold as new then this number can be 0 or a negative value

Asking price per GT - The asking price per Gross Ton, calculated by dividing the Asking price field by the yacht's Gross tonnage field (see Dimensions definitions below)

Asking price per GT (unconverted) - The asking price per Gross Ton converted into the stated currency using the historical currency exchange rate at the time of sale

Buying broker(s) - A comma separated list of the brokers involved in representing the buyer in a yacht sale

Country at Sale Time - The country in which the yacht was when sold.

Currency - The currency used for the asking price. Options are US Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), Euros, (EUR) and Australian Dollars (AUD)

Current Listing - A True/False flag to indicate whether the listing record is the current one. If the listing has the most recent price and broker then it is true, while previous asking prices and/or brokers will be False

Individual Buying Broker - This generates one row for each broker involved in buying a yacht. For example, if there are two buying brokers then there will be two individual broker rows for that sale

Individual Listing Broker - This generates one row for each broker involved in selling a yacht. For example, if there are two selling brokers as a joint CA then there will be two individual broker rows for that sale

Listed From Date - The start date of a listing, in Month Year format. Each broker and asking price combination is stored as a separate listing record

Listed To Date - The end date of a listing, in Month Year format

Listing Broker(s) - The Brokers involved in representing the seller in a yacht sale. If there is a joint listing, all brokers will be represented in the same field. If you need them to be listed separately, please use the Individual Listing Broker field

Listing days on market - The number of days the yacht has been on sale with a broker or brokers at one asking price. Changes to broker and/or asking price are stored in separate records, so you can see how long a yacht was on offer with one broker or at one price

Listing outcome - Whether the listing is in progress, withdrawn or sold

Listing price - The asking price for a listing in the original currency

Listing price (unconverted) - The asking price for a listing converted into each currency based on the exchange rate at the time of the listing

Listing type - Whether the listing record is a new instruction, price change, CA change or sale. There can be multiple values for one listing - for example, a price change can result in a subsequent sale

Locality at Sale Time - The Locality in which the yacht was when sold.

Name when sold - The name of the yacht at the time of sale, based on the known dates of a yacht's name changes

Number of buying brokers - The number of brokers involved in representing the buyer in a yacht sale

Number of CA changes - The total number of CA changes during one listing record for a yacht

Number of listing brokers - The number of brokers involved in representing the seller in a yacht sale

Number of price changes - The total number of price changes recorded during a listing

Overall price change - The price change from the first listing of a yacht for sale to the latest price, calculated as a percentage based on the converted currency

Overall price change % - The price change from the first listing of a yacht for sale to the latest price, calculated as a percentage based on the original currency

Price change - The price change from one listing to the next when a yacht changes price, calculated as a percentage based on the converted currency

Price change % - The price change from one listing to the next when a yacht changes price, calculated as a percentage based on the original currency

Region at Sale Time - The Region in which the yacht was when sold

Sale asking price - The asking price at the time of sale in the original currency

Sale asking price (unconverted) - The asking price at the time of sale in the converted currency

Sale date/year/month - The date we logged the sale, to the nearest month

Sale type - This field indicates whether a yacht was a new sale or resale (used yacht)

Total days on market - The total time that the yacht is on the market from the initial listing to the most recent broker and asking price

Asking price - The asking price at time of sale, stored as a number with no currency attached

Asking price AUD/EUR/GBP/USD - The asking price at time of sale converted into the stated currency using the historical currency exchange rate at the time of sale

VAT Status - Whether the asking price includes or excludes Value Added Tax

Calculations

Yachts Count - A shortcut field that adds a count of yacht units to the widget, based on the number of unique yachts

Capacities

Fuel capacity - The specified maximum fuel capacity of the yacht measured in litres

Grey black water capacity - The total volume of the waste water holding tanks measured in litres

Water capacity - The total volume of the fresh water holding tanks measured in litres

Categories

Primary category - Whether the yacht is a motor yacht or a sailing yacht. A yacht can only belong to one primary category

Secondary categories - Additional yacht categories including expedition yacht (synonymous with explorer yacht), classic yacht, day charter vessel, replica sailing vessels, houseboat, multihull, research yacht, sportfish. A yacht can belong to secondary multiple categories

Class

MCA compliance - Whether the yacht meets Maritime and Coastguard Agency regulations. This field is a binary Yes or No value

SOLAS compliance - Whether the yacht meets the Safety Of Life At Sea regulations. This field is a binary Yes or No value

Yacht class - The classification society or societies to which a yacht is registered

Construction

Builders - The shipyard responsible for building the yacht

Builder Group - The corporate group owning the shipyard, such as Azimut Benetti or Ferretti Group

Construction codename - The codename used during the yacht's build, if applicable

Construction start date/month/year - The keel laying date to the nearest Month Year

Construction status - The known status of a yacht. Options include:

Casualty - Damaged beyond repair or destroyed and removed from service
Concept - A yacht design that has not yet been commissioned
Decommissioned - Removed from service but still in existence
Delivered - Completed, delivered to owner and in service
In Build - Currently under construction
Launched - Launched for sea trials and testing, but not yet completed or delivered
On Hold - A project that has been suspended mid-build
On Order - Ordered by a customer but awaiting keel laying

Country of build - The country in which the build yard was based

Custom/semi-custom - Whether the yacht is a fully custom design and build, or a semi-custom production yacht based on a series with multiple yachts

Decks - The total number of decks on the yacht (N.B. sailing yachts are counted as 0 decks)

Delivery date/Delivery month/Delivery year - The delivered date of the yacht to the nearest known month

Exterior Designer - The individual or company responsible for the overall exterior design of the yacht. Most yachts have one exterior designer, but there can be multiple values for this field

Has a Pilot Deck - A yes or no value to indicate presence of a pilot deck

Hull type - The shape and type of hull used in the yacht design. Sample values: full displacement, semi-displacement, catamaran, trimaran, caique, deep v/ planing

Interior Designers - The individual or company responsible for the interior design of the yacht. Most yachts have one interior designer, but there can be multiple values for this field

Launch date/Launch month/Launch year - The launch date of the yacht to the nearest known month

Naval architect - The individual or company responsible for the naval architecture of the yacht. Most yachts have one naval architect, but there can be multiple values for this field

Order date/month/year - The known order date of a yacht to the nearest month and year

Port of build - The port town or city where the yacht was built

Series model - The semi-custom production yacht series model name. This is empty for fully custom yachts

Dimensions

Beam - The width of the yacht beam at its widest point, measured in metres

Displacement tonnage - The weight of the volume of water displaced by the yacht measured in tons

Gross tonnage - The gross (total) weight of the yacht measured in tons

Length overall - The full length of the yacht from the forward most part to the aft most part

Length at waterline - The length of the yacht from bow to stern measured at the waterline

Length on deck - The length of the main deck measured from bow to stern in metres

Max draught - The maximum vertical distance between the yacht's waterline and the bottom of the hull, measured in metres. For sailing yachts, this measure incorporates the yachts's keel

Min draught - The minimum draught possible for a sailing yacht when the keel is retracted

Net register tonnage - The cargo carrying capacity of the yacht measured in register tons (1 register ton is 100 cubic feet or 2.83 m3)

Engines

Engine kind - The fuel type used by the engine e.g. diesel, electric, gas turbine, steam turbine

Engine make - The manufacturing company of the engine

Engine model - The model name of the engine

Engine power - The declared power of the engine in Horsepower (Hp)

Engines per make - The number of engines on board from each manufacturer

List of engines - A comma separated list of all engines on board, comprising the kind, make, model and engines per make for each set of engines

Total engine power - The combined engine power on board, based on the total engines and their respective output

Total engines - The total number of engines on board

Equipment

Aircon model - The manufacturer of the air conditioning unit

Number of aircons - The total number of air conditioning units on board

Generator model - The manufacturer of the generator

Number of generators - The total number of generators on board

Features list - A comma separated list of special features available on the yacht. These include helipad, pool, hot tub, gym, beach club

Stabiliser model - The manufacturer of the stabiliser

Number of stabilisers - The total number of stabilisers on board

Thruster model - The manufacturer of the thruster

Number of thrusters - The total number of thrusters on board

Watermaker model - The manufacturer of the watermaker

Events

Event date - The date of an event to the nearest month and year

Event description - A text description of the event occurring to a yacht

Event type - An identifier for different event that occur to a yacht, such as award win, attendance at a yacht show or an accident

Identification

BOATPro ID - Our internal yacht identifier, which can be used to track yachts across identity changes

Call sign - The maritime call sign identifier assigned to the yacht by their licensing authority

Flag - The flag state that the yacht currently uses

Former names - A comma separated list of known former names for the yacht

Hull number - The unique hull number assigned by the builder/yard during the build process

IMO number - The unique International Maritime Organisation number for the yacht

MMSI - The Maritime Mobile Service Identity number, which is a unique nine-digit number assigned to a yacht's AIS (Automatic Identification System) tracking system

Yacht name - The current known name for the yacht

Number of name changes - The total number of known name changes

Number of flag changes - The total number of known flag changes

Management

Management Company - Current known company managing the yacht

Registered Company - Current known company listed on the yacht registration

Materials

Deck materials - A comma separated list of materials used to build the yacht's deck

Hull materials - A comma separated list of materials used to build the yacht's hull

Superstructure materials - A comma separated list of materials used to build the yacht's superstructure

Performance

Cruising speed - The recommended speed for regular cruising measured in knots

Fuel consumption - The amount of fuel used in one hour at stated range speed

Max speed - The maximum speed possible measured in knots

Range - The maximum feasible travel range of the yacht based on range speed and fuel capacity

Range speed - The specified speed used to calculate maximum range

Refits

Number of refits - The total number of refits logged for the yacht

Refit company - The yard responsible for the refit

Refit description - A short description of the work carried out during refit

Refit finished year - The year the refit was completed

Refit level - The complexity of the refit. Options are Low, Moderate, Large and Disruptive

Rig

n.b. these fields are populated for sailing yachts only

Ballast - The amount of ballast weight added to a sailing yacht, measured in tons

Mast Max Height - The height of the tallest mast on a sailing yacht

Masts - The number of masts on a sailing yacht

Rig type - The type of rig used by the sailing yacht

Sail area - The total area of all sails measured in square metres
